The R&A has unveiled new participation figures, revealing a remarkable surge in the number of adult golfers worldwide.
According to new research undertaken by the governing body, 42.7 million on-course golfers (9 and 18-hole) ⛳are now in R&A-affiliated markets (outside the USA and Mexico).

Asia emerges as the frontrunner in global golf engagement, with a total of 26.2 million adults actively participating in the sport. Europe follows closely, with 19.7 million adults involved in various forms of golf.
Over 45,000 flocked to see the stars at the 2024 Honda LPGA Thailand and many were youngsters keen to play golf.
Established markets such as Thailand and newer regions such as Vietnam are finding their prime courses very busy. Even the 111 courses across the Philippines are busy with several new courses on the way.
Mark Siegel, MD, at leading golf tour operator Golfasian (https://www.golfasian.com/), said, “ We have noticed that it is becoming harder for golfers to get tee times, especially during the high season. Therefore, we now have to book tee times for our international golf vacationers 🏌️♀️ up to a year in advance.”
Phil Anderton, Chief Development Officer at The R&A, said, “Golf’s popularity continues to grow with a significant increase in the number of people playing the sport both on and off the course.“
He added, “There are also millions of others enjoying alternative formats of Golf, such as driving ranges, adventure golf and simulator golf, which are vital to the growth of the sport.“
As Golfasian celebrates its 20th season, it has set a new record by managing 17,000 golf vacationers in 2023. The company’s expansion into newer markets, including the Philippines and Cambodia, signals a promising future for the sport.
